The Princess Ico

Passing the fourteenth century. A storm did embarrancar the Spanish ship's Martin Ruiz de Avendano on the coast of Lanzarote. The Marine was fortunate that Zonzamas, the great king, he would welcome. He stayed on the island for six months, enjoying the hospitality of the Aborigines. But there was also another reason to stay there so long. Fayna, the wife of sublime Zonzamas, had won her heart. Then, Martin Ruiz de Avendano went back to the sea. Never more was known of him but, four months after his departure, Fayna gave birth to a girl. He was named Ico and soon saw that it was a jejeje blonde and white skin, which fueled rumors among Lanzarote. Certainly, had they not escaped the romance between a stranger and Fayna. Zonzamas when he died, his son succeeded him Tinguafaya. However, it did not exercise the power for a long time, because shortly after being named king, about what Spanish pirates abducted along with his wife and other seventy Aborigines who were sold as slaves. After the short reign of Tiguafaya, he continued in power Guanareme, another son of Zonzamas. The new king married his sister Ico. In those days, this practice is common among the aborigines of several daughters of the archipelago. However, neither this monarch he expected a very long reign. He lost his life fighting against pirates who visited Lanzarote in search of slaves. Guanareme had a son, Guadarfía, which is now played reign. But Atchen, a close relative, also claimed the throne. It administers a vast region of Lanzarote and had so many relationships as a major power among the warriors. In addition, Atchen argued that Ico was not Zonzamas daughter, but the fruit of the queen's relationship with those abroad. Therefore, his son Guadarfía not directly descended from Zonzamas and this did not ascend the throne of wood legitimate. Tagoror or the council of elders met and, as the sages do tend to save their backs when they do not know what decision to take, leaving the resolution of the problem in the hands of the fate or whereabouts of their deities. The council decided, therefore, that Ico had to undergo a test supernatural, to check their real ancestry. The date for the trial arrived. Ico and took her three ladies companion to a cave. Hundreds of Lanzarote came to see the gruesome spectacle. When the queen was at the entrance of the cave, looked at the crowd and was able to distinguish some beloved faces covered with tears, as his son Guadarfía. Only his old midwife dared to contravene the rules and approach to hug her. An old man made a sign and a couple of men away gently to the old for the act to continue. Apparently strong and sure of herself, Ico go into the cave, followed by his companions. In front of the cave was crowded green branches. The four women entered in that hole and a warrior lit a bonfire on which he was depositing the green branches. There was a great humareda. With palm leaves, two men fan the smoke toward the inside of the cave. The women locked began to feel that they picaban the eyes and throat. Outside, the people looked forward to the test: if not Ico died asphyxiated, would be the demonstration that the blood flowing in his veins blood was real. After a short time, heard the screams of women. Then, stifling a cough. In the end, the sounds that came from the cave were weakened and became extinct. But still the fire continued burning and executioners continued sending smoke into the interior. Much time later extinguished the fire and elders of the council entered the cave. In front of them in the ground, were lying lifeless bodies of the three companions of Ico. His stance was twisted and his eyes were still wide open by the terror and agony. More inside, backed into the wall of the cave, was Ico, blackened by smoke. His eyes were two embers that looked to the old. Without pronouncing a word, gave a few wobbly steps. He refused any help and slowly came out of the cave with your head up, blinking. Atardecía and the light from the sun bathing his figure renegrida. Approached his son Guadarfía, the new king of the island, and we hugged. The crowd, gathered in front of the cave, he was delirious with joy before the prodigy who had just performed before their own eyes. As often happens in the magical stories, only a few people knew how that miracle had taken place. The rest, never knew what was the real reason that one of the old healers had been opened step up the princess, through those attending the trial. That elderly woman had exercised for many years as a midwife. Ico was born and where she had her hands wise and skillful so that the healthy girl came into this world. Then, he helped Ico to take his son Guadarfía and cured him of not a few wounds on their raids of child and adolescent. For many Aborigines, the old lady was not only a midwife but also an intelligent healer. For anyone surprised that the old to embrace Ico, but what none of those present was noted how, surreptitiously, the midwife delivered him a marine sponge, soaked in water, and he begged to be put in his mouth to breathe through when she began to enter the smoke. So, Ico could save his life and the throne of his son.
